Book Reviews

This week I was looking for a book to read with my students and while at the library I stumbled across a great new find! My Mother is so Smart, by Tomie De Paola is a book by one of my favorite childhood authors that I had never seen. I loved reading this sweet story about a little boy who admires all of the different types of things his mother can do. From driving a truck to making popsicles in the freezer, this mom can do it all. It made me think of my class of diverse students and the wonderful families that they come from. It would be so fun to share about why they think their mom's are so smart

I feel as though it is always best practice when working with young students to inquire about their families and home lives. Students who are usually hesitant to share could be more forthcoming when talking about their families and traditions. If a student is still feeling hesitant, you can always invite the family to come in and visit or to write down their tradition for the student then read it aloud. I am excited to read this book with my students, but I might have to save it until Mother's Day!
